“To me, portrait photography means creating a relevant document of the times.“ Florian Kolmer

STUDIO PICKNICK is pleased to present Portraits by Berlin-based photographer Florian Kolmer. The exhibition looks back on two decades of studio work and behind-the-scenes captures. Among the highlights of his impressive, intimate portfolio are images of Debbie Harry, Pharell Williams, Everything but the Girl, Jürgen Vogel, Moritz Bleibtreu and Martina Gedeck.
Beyond well-known portraits depicting German actors and musicians, the exhibition also shows previously unpublished pictures of Friedrich Liechtenstein, Nicolette Krebitz or Heike Makatsch.
All portraits betray a virtuoso touch and composition. Both glamorous and eccentric, these photographs and documents of their time (especially the backstage captures) reveal very personal snapshots brimming with energy, focus and passion.

Florian Kolmer launched his photographic career in 1995 as assistant to Kai-Uwe Gundlach in Hamburg. Later, he moved to London where he honed his skills as a fashion and portrait photographer. In 2003, he returned to his native city of Berlin. His works have graced numerous international publications including iD, The Face, Nylon, Crash and Sleaze Nation followed by features for a.o. ZEITmagazin, SZ Magazin, Stern, Vanity Fair, Neon and V Magazine.
