“FoLD: Fear of Life+Death”
Leo Kuelbs Collection is proud to support GODsDOGs (Britta and Ron Helbig) and their installation event “FoLD: Fear of Life+Death,” at Fata Morgana/coGalleries in Berlin, Germany. This immersive selection of sculpture, paintings, and performance is inspired by the annual “Day of the Dead” holiday, which brings together the world of the living with that of the other. Just as winter begins and the final leaves fall from the trees, this short period marks the end of the harvest season and the closest point of contact between worlds.
The large-scale, site specific sculptural elements beckon viewers, from both sides, through hundreds of portals, vacant spaces waiting to be inhabited by imagination and communal contact. The rooms of Fata Morgana/coGalleries become analogous to the transitory realities just outside the reach of our consciousness, with a series of paintings serving as objects of revelation and inspiration. Beauty, mystery, faith and hopefulness are suffused in the “FoLDS,” and all are welcome to be a part of this living work of art.
GODsDOGs on “FoLD: Fear of Life+Death”
Colors, branches and objects grow exuberantly across the walls of the space – worlds within worlds. This mass of images, associations, materials and details communicate overflowing life. At the same time it is scary. You find yourself not safely vis-avis to a piece of art on a white wall, but the artwork swallows you. The spectators are literally dwelling inside the installation and hence become a part of the artwork.
So this outside form, mirrors and resonates the content of the show: Fear of Life and Death. Don´t fight it. Let go, and let yourself be swallowed by the forms, the images, the lines… the abundance.
About GODsDOGs:
Britta & Ron Helbig studied contemporary dance and movement theater in London, Lichtenstein, the Conservatory, Linz and the dance academy balance one in Berlin before they were compelled to the visual arts. With a background of studies in painting and fine arts at the Berea College, Kentucky; the Philipps Universität Marburg, the UdK Berlin, and an excessive experience of various practises in building and construction work they are autodidacts in most artistic techniques.
As part of the 5-membered artists group „Artists Anonymous“ they worked for four years in the fields of Installation, Painting, Photography, Video and Performance and since 2010 as the artists collective GODsDOGs.
