Simon Goff releases ‚Wooden Islands‘, new single taken from his debut album ‚Vale‘ which will be out on 23 April 2021 via 7K! Records

„When writing the track some people commented on the idea of virtuosity. This has always been a tricky thing for me as I see it put the violin into a place of idolisation. This is not how I connect to music but rather see music as a very personal thing. The idea of virtuosity with the violin and this idea of the classical soloist, is something I processed whilst studying at music college and it never connected to me. It created more isolation than connection. The violin in this context is somewhat of a Wooden Island that you find yourself stranded upon.“ Simon Goff

Since his arrival to the city, the violinist was quickly adopted by Berlin’s famed post-classical music scene working alongside visionaries such as the late Jóhann Jóhannsson, Hildur Guðnadóttir(notably on the film sound-tracks for Chernobyl and Joker), Dustin O’Halloranand Yair Elazar Glotman. Undoubtedly, there’s a lot of these masters’ influences in Vale, especially in the way Goff combines analogue purity with processed, looped and layered treatments, with Jóhannsson’s words in his mind: “Music where the electronic and acoustic sounds blend seamlessly.”
