Berlin Atonal returns in September 2023 in an expanded format. Covering 6 concert nights and a four day exhibition period, the festival will activate the entire Kraftwerk Berlin complex, transforming the former powerplant into a monumental stage for the presentation of artistic projects at the cutting edge of experimental cultures. Universal Metabolism at Kraftwerk Berlin is a new exhibition occurring between the two weekend concert programmes of Berlin Atonal 2023. The exhibition will open from 16:00 each day from the 11th to the 14th September. Inheriting the formal experimentation of Berlin Atonal’s landmark predecessor exhibition Metabolic Rift, this new project invites audiences on a performative journey through over two dozen site-specific artworks sequenced through time and dispersed throughout the Kraftwerk complex. These artworks, encompassing audio-visual works, performance, in-situ sculptures, video art, and immersive sonic environments, materialise and dissolve in a sequence over time, each day concluding in a specific performative, concert-based end-point. The exhibition takes as a starting point the bodily and extra-bodily cycles of exchange, adaption and transformation.
