Culture Club 6 @ Bulbul Berlin

As we bid farewell to the Berlin summer and welcome the yellow and brown leaves of autumn, Culture Club prepares for its 6th event at Bulbul to celebrate a time of year when the days and nights are briefly of equal length, the Equinox. Joining us from Darmstadt as we party through the night into the dawn, we are delighted to welcome the one and only Phonk D who, after gathering 100s of kilos of vinyl and countless DJ gigs, founded his Footjob label in 2014 focusing on a sound somewhere between deep, disco and classic house. Following various releases on Footjob, Phonk D has also appeared on labels like Salsoul, Glitterbox,Exploited, Nite Grooves, and Shall Not Fade. His event series „Diggin’ In The Crates“ at the Weststadtcafé in Darmstadt has allowed him to follow a passion for tunes that dates back to the early 90s.

Also making their Culture Club debut are Boom Dis, a mysterious duo of Irish-German selectors, whose vinyl sets are known for their diverse, genre-blending sounds from around the globe. A trademark of their record selection is a love of low frequencies and deep grooves as found in dancehall and dub beats, hip hop in all forms, funk, boogie and soulful house music. If that wasn’t enough for your ears, we are also joined by the legendary disc jockey Anthony Burke aka Burkey, an enigmatic Northerner once known as the hardest working DJ in Berlin before he veered into the multidisciplinary world of painting, poetry, sculpture and modern art, which now compete for his attention along with his love of good-time music of the house and disco variety. Somehow, the man also known as the Kreuzberg Gigolo has also managed to put out a monthly show „Love Life it’s Free“ on the esteemed Refuge Worldwide station in Berlin, where he provides his listeners with audible treats ranging from dub, balearic, broken beat, new wave, funk, soul and jazz.

Rounding out the night we have the highly anticipated return of the revered Kujiradio krew joined by Culture Club resident, Le Fox, for an unforgettable B2B2B2B2B megamix of hands in the air belters, locked grooves and swelters, whizzpoppers, showstoppers, and some actual dance music too – smell my cheese you mother!
