Dark Matter – The only good system @ ZiMMT

An audio-visual room installation by Andreas Ullrich.

A dark room filled ankle-deep with water is lit only by a dim LED spotlight illuminating a triangle hanging at head height in the center of the room. In addition to the high-pitched sound that resulting from the triangle, the sound is picked up through a contact microphone and used to modulate a Doepfer A100 DIY analog synthesizer system, resulting in a very deep sine bass that lingers in the room for a long time. The bass waves, just as they affect the human body, also modulate the water surface, that starts to ripple in the glow of the LED spotlight.

This installation is about a parable of practiced self-empowerment, the title “The only good system” refers to the popular saying “The only good system is a soundsystem”. Systems of initial and resonance, as well as political communication, self-empowerment, taking courage and wanting to find out or discover are some keywords to the possible levels of reception, whereby clear interpretability is unnecessary.
