Electric Lights – Women in Electronic Music Premiere in Berlin!
The fascination of space is connected to the big questions of our existence:
About origin and future. The wonder of the incomprehensible, the infinite – space.
This is what electronic music is all about. No other musical genre represents space so perfectly, points beyond the usual structures and forms and searches for utopias, both musically and on a socio-cultural level: electronic music stands for an attitude to life of freedom and unity, it knows neither exclusion nor demarcation and pulsates without gender divisions.
Building on this spiritual foundation, Electric Lights focuses on the energy and power of women in electronic music: their passion, their experiences and their unique artistic perspectives.
In an extraordinary DJ & live set series, some of these artists will perform alongside the photographer herself in the Zeiss-Großplanetarium in Berlin.
Katja Ruge’s first guest JakoJako, producer and resident at Berghain, is characterised by her love of modular synthesizers, which for her are an artistic tool, trademark and passion. With a musical spectrum ranging from dreamy ambient to hypnotic techno and a passion for analogue circuits, creative wiring and experimentation, she has established herself as a formative figure in Berlin’s electronic music scene.
The Electric Lights event concept at the Zeiss-Großplanetarium consists of two DJ & Live sets. Host Katja Ruge opens the evening, and after a break her guest DJ delights the audience with another set. Both sets will be accompanied by 360° visual projections in the dome, which will perfectly match the electronic sounds.
After sold-out shows in Hamburg with Helena Hauff, DJ MELL G and Lena Willikens, it is now time for the series to enter Berlin.
Electric Lights stems from a photography project by Katja Ruge in collaboration with Thomas Venker, Kaput – Magazin für Insolvenz & Pop, where interviews and photos of female artists are published online.
