Kiezsalon w/ Will Samson and Freddie Murphy @ NOME

We conclude our Kiezsalon season at NOME, with British electro-acoustic ambient musician Will Samson & Torino-based composer Freddie Murphy.
Founded in 2015, NOME Gallery works with international emerging and mid-career artists whose practices engage diverse disciplines and involve a broad range of media. NOME enables artists to deepen their research and further their artistic potential by collaborating with various cultural institutions and facilitating the production of new works for each exhibition. The curated program of the gallery aims to raise critical awareness of the crucial issues facing our age. The gallery offers the perfect setting for the last event of our season.
Will Samson is a British-born musician exploring the middle ground between ambient, electronic, experimental & acoustic music – using a variety of recording techniques, which often focus heavily on the use of old tape machines & analogue equipment. Released in 2022 his latest album ‘Active Imagination’, dreamlike in the swirling, illusory nature of its unfolding, sits as a richly layered meditation on the idea of belonging, identity and the search for home in the most unstable of worlds.

Torino-based composer Freddie Murphy’s musical practice involves experimenting on the duality of natural/synthetic. His work uses acoustic recordings processed into synthetic sounds, as well as mimicking natural sounds using analogue tools. For the Kiezsalon, Freddie performs his latest output ‘The Night shows no Dawn’, which started as an itinerant radio show airing one hour before Dawn. The show featured artists reciting book extracts scored by Freddie, plus a selection of apt contemporary music: words and tunes to sink into a Dawn that may not come. ‘The Night shows no Dawn’ is now performed live as a vigil.
