Buy/Stream Whisky Pickle Records HERE
Whiskey Pickle Records was conceived in Brooklyn after a few too many shots of Bushmills and a shared passion for unconventional dance music. Founded by Adam Warped and now based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the label champions psychedelic, cosmic, and leftfield sounds that blur genre lines and defy expectations. From tripped-out disco to hypnotic house and beyond, Whiskey Pickle is dedicated to pushing dance music into deeper weirder territory, and making you wiggle while it’s at it.
Hi Whiskey Pickle, Good to meet you! Who is behind the label?
Hello Club Map, nice to meet you as well! I’m Adam Warped, owner and founder of Whiskey Pickle Records aka Johnny Blackouts.
When was the first idea to create the label?
Whiskey Pickle was born one rainy night in Brooklyn after a few too many shots of Bushmills.
What is the inspiration behind the label?
Whiskey and women. Disco debauchery.
Do you have any statistics since the label was created—how many releases, how many vinyl, and how many units have been sold?
We currently have sixty one releases, including twelve vinyl releases, and more on the way.
Over the years we’ve acquired over 1,199,590 streams, literally countless downloads, and sold somewhere around 5,000 vinyl units.
Can you describe what a typical office life means for you?
Anything but typical LOL
Do you produce yourself or are you a DJ?
Yes, I produce, remix, and am a card carrying Disco Jock since 1991.
Which distribution channels do you use?
Currently we’re with Symphonic Distribution, Prime Direct Distribution, and Groove Distribution but have previously worked with The Orchard/Sony, and Juno Records.
Where do you find hungry and ambitious artists?
I comb the back alleys and hand out sandwiches.
What impact does Spotify streaming have on the economic location of an indie label?
Ughhh it’s really unfortunate that they are globally dominating music streaming these days and so in turn are a necessary evil. I definitely prefer Bandcamp but feel it’s important for our releases to be available everywhere.
If you’re looking for new music, what are the key elements and factors you’re looking for, apart from the fact that it’s obviously a great track?
That’s a tough question, primarily if it will fit the sound of our catalog.
How would you describe the label’s style and vision?
Discernibly different with a hearty lean towards the cosmic, psychedelic, and deeper more leftfield acid disco directions.
For the producers out there who send their demos via email, what tips would you give them if they send their tracks?
Please put the artist/title in the metadata of your music file and use a link that doesn’t expire. I can’t tell you how many times I love a track submission but have no idea who the artist is or by the time I finally get around to clicking a link it has expired. Also don’t be easily discouraged, I’ve had artists submit music for years before we finally heard something that was a perfect fit for the label.
