3km Records is a new label that’s focused on deep sounds with elements of House and Techno, drawing inspiration from Detroit. It has been set up by veteran DJ, producer and radio host Stefan Weise.
The labels releases thus far have been picking up supporters such as Danny Tenaglia, Ian Pooley, Ben Sims, Fred P, Jonas Kopp, Kirk Degiorgio amongst many others.
Being a vessel for Stefan’s own productions, this time sees Remy Unger making a contribution to the project.
Stefan Weise grew up in Europe but is now based in the USA where he hosts his „Blue Industries“ show on Proton Radio. Boasting twenty years of production experience including appearances on Lucidflow, King Street and Frequenza, he also counts over a decade of running his radio show, that all set the groundwork for this new venture.
Remy Unger is an influential figure from the Netherlands who can be found spinning regularly at leading festivals such as Timewarp, A Day At The Park, closing sets at Awakenings, or being resident at Click. Not only has he also played at John Digweed’s Bedrock Nights, but has gigs in New York and Ibiza to his name. A label head too, Fone Audio was created with partner Patch Park, and a recent project titled WAXBOX has continued his production output. His respected sound can also be found on such imprints like Pig&Dan’s ELEVATE or Alexander Koning’s [percep-tion] for example.
Track one “Fractal Soul” shows Stefan’s never ending ear for a deep and expertly executed floor jam. Vocal moan stabs create a quirky accent over the multi-layered, electrified synths that are dripping with cool vibes and emotion. If you peek underneath, you’ll catch the funked up, swinging beat that makes this original a cohesion of quality of the highest order.
Remy Unger takes on the sole remix here. Opting for a patient and smooth intro, changing up the feel for a softer and more laid back take. Added melodies and new synth lines push this beauty into a new direction, offering another stunning interpretation from another master craftsman.
“Tesseract Funk” is the edgiest and straight up dance floor focused track of the three. Using chopped up vocal samples to add an energetic party fuel sound, there’s also an old school flavour bursting out from start to finish with a killer break. Intricate production will satisfy any seasoned DJ as it demands attention, doing plenty of damage for those who know how to handle it!
