Acclaimed South African singer songwriter, poet and DJ Sio joins forces with Soul Quest Records for the deeply emotive new EP, Losing Sleep, a four track collection exploring love, reflection and the restless thoughts that emerge long after dark.
Marking her first collaboration and release with Soul Quest Records, Losing Sleep brings together Sio’s unmistakable voice, rich songwriting, intricate harmonies and poetic lyricism with the label’s signature blend of deep soulful house, broken beat and jazz infused electronic grooves.
At the heart of the EP lies a shared musical language between Sio and the Soul Quest crew, resulting in a body of work that feels both intimate and expansive. Across four tracks, themes of longing, self discovery and emotional evolution unfold against a distinctly London backdrop, shaped by some of the capital’s most exciting producers.
Opening the release is „Serious“, a deep, soulful and Afro tinged house cut produced by Sean Green and From London. „Somewhere“, produced by Max Sinàl, KingCrowney and Sean Green, blends house and broken beat influences into a warm, reflective groove, while „Hello“, produced by Max Sinàl, Sean Green and Slxm Sol, delivers a shuffling broken house rhythm beneath Sio’s heartfelt vocals. The EP closes with an extended version of „Serious“, allowing its hypnotic energy to fully unfold.
Speaking about the project, Sio explains:
„As a chronic insomniac, I used to mourn the loss of sleep, but now I relish the quiet reflective space the night provides. This EP reflects the way matters of the heart cause sleepless nights in ruminating on what was, what could’ve been and what will become, on a bed of groovy soulful house production I’ve missed in my sound.“
