– gathering emerging FLINTA and BIPoC artists from facets of House Music –

At playgrounds, we let go … to enjoy, explore and connect with others – no matter who we are, where we’re from, or what time of day it is. Come out and play with us!

Josiane De Mut and Lena Brecht met each other during a DJ workshop with Sarah Farina at Refuge Worldwide. Learning together, they’re DJ partners with a deep passion for fluffy, dreamy and fun house music. They launched the first edition of What a Playground playing a cozy open air event in the streets of Kreuzberg during Fête de la Musique. Now, they are programming their first line-up, featuring emerging artists from their social circle who share their passion for various facets of house music. What a Playground aims to create an open and safer space for FLINTA and BIPoC artists, encouraging them to play first sets to a appreciative, curious and diverse crowd.

Fitzroy is a small and intimate venue – let’s look out for each other and make sure everyone is welcome and safe.

There is zero tolerance for any bullshit behavior.

Absolutely everyone is welcome if they enter the space with the appropriate level of respect, care and consent for everyone in the room. If anyone violates this basic rule, please approach any of us, the door staff, the bar staff or anyone else working at Fitzroy. We will make sure that any uncomfortable situation is handled immediately. [We quote Imaginary friend here because this matches our aspirations for creating a safer space].

FUNDRAISING
We would like to donate any proceeds of our first What a Playground to WaterBackpack PAUL. Through Josiane’s Congolese roots, she became involved with community service and through her dad, with filter system inventor Prof. Dr.-Ing. Franz-Bernd Frechen. More than 500 PAUL-Stations installed in countries such as DR Congo, Eritrea, Ghana, Colombia, Peru, Haiti, India, Myanmar and Pakistan help to remove 99.99% of bacteria, viruses and pathogens from contaminated water and raw water such as rainwater, river water, groundwater etc ..
Josiane established a connection with „WaterBackpack PAUL“ and filter inventor Prof. Dr.-Ing. Franz-Bernd Frechen from Kassel, where her father also actively supports the project. Thus we know that this organization will handle our funds responsibly and with direct effects on local communities.
