Art Is The Place is back at Globus for a special event on Tag der Kultur from 22h – 5h. For the second installment of The Birth of Techno, Art Is The Place brings in Detroit deep house legend Rick Wade, who is keeping it true to the roots of house music with an extended set. Rounding out the night will be Sanctuary.
The Birth of Techno was created to provide a space of community and appreciation for the music that came from Detroit and give the stage to Detroit House and Techno pioneers. In addition to the night club event at Globus, Art Is The Place presented „The Birth of Techno. From Detroit nach Berlin“ exhibition at FHXB Museum in Berlin from 03.06 – 28.08.
As a decolonising narrative space, the exhibition brought often neglected stories and voices of Detroit techno to the fore, to address appropriation and marketing strategies in German techno, and examine the idiosyncratic, sometimes fragmented structures of Berlin techno culture.
