Vom 6.-8. Mai findet in der STATION BERLIN die re:publica statt
In ihrer knapp achtjährigen Geschichte hat sich die re:publica mit zuletzt 5.000 Besuchern zur größten Social-Media-Konferenz Europas entwickelt und durfte auf ihren Bühnen viele der wichtigsten Mitwirkenden der digitalen Gesellschaft begrüßen. Diese Gesellschaft unterliegt seit ihrer Existenz dem ständigen Wandel, doch nie zuvor war dieser so spürbar wie seit den Enthüllungen des Whistleblowers Edward Snowden im Sommer 2013.
INTO THE WILD soll als Motto der re:publica 2014 den Blick öffnen für verschiedene Ansätze, um das Internet und die Gesellschaft der nahen Zukunft zu verstehen und zu verbessern: Wenn Algorithmen uns zu gläsernen, kontrollierbaren weil berechenbaren Menschen machen, müssen wir vielleicht unberechenbarer werden? Die Auflösung von Strukturen, das Verlassen der populären Trampelpfade hinein ins Chaos, in die Irrationalität, in die Wildnis eben, könnten Strategien sein. Aber wie finden wir uns dann noch zurecht, wie finden wir zueinander? Wie flüstert man im Netz und vor allem: mit wem? Wird nicht, wer ein freies, unkontrolliertes Netz fordert, umso mehr kontrollieren müssen, wer dabei sein darf und wer draußen bleiben muss?
Das omniobservierte Netz mag ein zugigeres geworden sein und wird doch seine Reservate zu schützen wissen, lernen, Haken zu schlagen, sich weiterentwickeln. Für die re:publica 2014 begeben wir uns deshalb INTO THE WILD auf die Suche nach unerwarteten technischen Lösungen, überraschenden Impulsen aus Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und Politik und freuen uns auf neue, ungezähmte Netzkultur.
Die re:publica wird in der STATION-Berlin in Berlin-Kreuzberg veranstaltet.

We are happy to announce the most exciting re:publica to date, happening from 6–8 May at STATION Berlin.
During its nearly eight year history, re:publica has developed into Europe’s largest social media conference, with 5 000 participants in the last year, and has had the privilege of welcoming many of the digital society’s most important leading minds to its stages. Since its inception, the digital society has faced continuous changes – but never have these changes been so palpable as since whistle-blower Edward Snowden’s revelations during the summer of 2013.
re:publica 2014’s motto INTO THE WILD highlights various points of departure for solutions in the internet of the near future. When algorithms turn us transparent and controllable through predictability, perhaps we have to become more unpredictable; dissolving old structures, veering from the well-trodden path in favour of chaos and irrationality, heading INTO THE WILD. Yet this begs the questions: how will we navigate and find one another? How can one whisper into the global net and, in particular, with whom? Will those calling for a free and unrestricted internet not have to face being ever more vigilant and controlling of those who may partake and those who must stay out?
While the omni-surveilled net may have become draughty it will continue to protect its vital interests, learn to sidestep and manoeuvre and continue to develop. During the build-up to re:publica 2014, we will extend INTO THE WILD in search of unexpected technical solutions, surprising impulses stemming from business and politics and look forward to new, unbridled internet culture.
