Congrats on the single release of ‘Sunrise (feat. Notelle)’ on 146 Records! Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind this song?
Me and Stephanie—aka Notelle—wrote Sunrise sometime in November 2024, I think. Winter was just about to hit hard here in Sweden, and if you’ve ever been, you know how insanely dark it gets—like the sun’s gone by 3pm. We were both feeling it and kind of needed something warm and hopeful to hold on to, so that’s where the idea came from. It ended up feeling really special, and I’ve found myself going back to it a bunch since that day. So yeah, I’m really happy it’s the first one out from this next chapter of music. It just made sense to start with this one.
The single is part of your next EP release. Is there a narrative or connection between the tracks chosen for the project?
I feel like all the new tracks are kind of carving out the sound the Discrete project was always meant to have. I’m getting more and more in tune with what I actually love making and what feels true to my sound. For this EP, I’ve just been going all in on what I personally think is good—no second guessing, no trying to fit into some box. That’s what I really wanted to showcase. There’s definitely a lot of range on the EP, but I like that. I never understood why every song has to sound the same just because you’re a DJ. That’s never been the point for me.
As a DJ and producer from Stockholm, has being based in the city made an impact in your music career?
Oh yeah, for sure—Stockholm’s writing scene is honestly just so good. Like, crazy good. Everyone here is insanely talented, and it’s super inspiring to be surrounded by that level of creativity all the time. I don’t know what it is, but it really feels like everyone in Sweden just knows how to write a great melody? It’s wild when you think about it. And I’m such a sucker for a good melody, so it’s kind of the perfect place to be.
What does a typical day in the studio look like for you? Any rituals or practices that keep you creatively charged?
A: I absolutely love working out before my sessions—it’s the first thing I do and it just clears my head completely. After that, I walk to the studio, which takes about 20 minutes, and that little transition is honestly so good for getting into the right mindset. Once I’m there, the main thing is just to leave the ego outside the door. If someone comes in with an idea, I always try it before judging it. You never really know where something might lead, and more often than not, it’s the ideas you didn’t expect to like that end up being your favourites. Just staying open is everything.
Q: What were your early inspirations that helped you decide to make electronic music?
I’ve always been a huge fan of electronic music—it’s just such a fun and limitless space to be in. It’s the one genre that really feels like it’s constantly pushing its own boundaries and redefining what it can sound like. That kind of freedom is super inspiring. And yeah, sometimes it definitely goes a bit too far and you’re like, “wait… is this even music?” haha. But I kind of love that too—it always finds its way back. It keeps things exciting, and that’s a big part of why I wanted to be in this world
