Record Sounds Like: Dirty yet blissful electro
There is a quiet optimism running through Umarga’s SEEKK EP, even as the drums stay scuffed and the bass keeps its teeth. The title track rides clipped electro percussion and a low, rubbery line, but the synths open like a window, letting in a little dawn air. This mixture of classic vibes and electro’s unique vision for the future mark this record out as something a little special.
Capacity tightens the groove into something more skeletal and direct, a drum tool that hums with feeling around the edges. Snappy Snaps finds swagger in negative space, all dry hits and a bass line that wouldn’t feel out of place on a Larry Heard record. This track nudges the floor forward without shouting but also without rest. 5loWs is the thick and textured slowdown, the afterglow, chords blooming over a steady pulse that feels almost idm.
