Can you tell us about how your new single ‘Don’t Hurt Me Baby’ came together?

I wrote it during Lockdown. Having a heap of time to dig deep and just re-discover my inspirations and what music I loved growing up. I just missed that 90s house pop sound that was so strong and uplifting during the 90s (pump up the jam etc). Everything I was hearing being played out was starting to sound the same to me and was honestly just so over it.

Subconsciously – I probably just wanted something to lift my spirits in such a fucked up time in the world.

What are your musical influences from childhood?

My dad was and still is a mobile DJ / Wedding DJ. I learnt how to DJ from him and was really into whatever he was into. A lot of disco, funk and 90s house records.

Some of the artists that come to mind are Brothers Johnson, Ace of Base, Livin Joy, C+C Music Factory, Madonna, Earth Wind and Fire, Boney M, UB40.

Is it even possible to argue about musical tastes?

Fuck no. So many different factors come into play. Where you grow up, what your parents listened to, what music your friends listen to, what clubs and environments you were in while you were growing up.

Which track would run when you moved into your boxing match?

Firestarter – The Prodigy

What was the worst job you ever had?

McDonalds. I lasted about half a shift and went home haha.

What would you do if you weren’t a musician?

Probably work with helping animals in some way. Not smart enough to be a VET but maybe I could help a VET haha.

What is the most important musical equipment invention of all time – and why?

Probably a bit biased here… But laptop for sure. I can do whatever comes to my mind at the click of a finger.

What would you advise to become a professional?

Trust your gut, blend in inspirations from parts of different styles of music you like. Don’t chase trends and be PATIENT. Become a master at your craft. It’s like chopping down a tree, you’re not going to chop it down in one hit. You have to keep hitting it and hitting it. Eventually that tree’s going to fall down.
